Chapter 08
Automatic care policies
Decide how the island trades, responds, and allocates workers while you are away.
Starting settings
| Policy | Initial setting |
|---|---|
| Workforce priority | Food first |
| Automatic food and material purchases | Both enabled |
| Sell surplus resources | Enabled |
| Automatic evacuation and emergency response | Both enabled |
| Food reserve target | 12 turns = 12 hours |
| Material reserve target | 60 |
| Cash to keep in reserve | 100 G |
| Automatic purchase budget per turn | 120 G shared by food and materials |
Reserves are targets, not guarantees. Production shortages, operating costs, purchase budgets, and trade capacity can prevent them from being met. Automatic food purchases for the current meal may use the cash reserve, but still depend on actual available cash, the purchase budget, and trade capacity.
Save changes for the next turn
- In Policies, enable or disable automatic trading and disaster responses, then set reserves and budgets. Food reserve targets can range from 0 to 50 turns.
- Choose Workforce priority. Food first favors farms and fishing harbors; Industry first favors mines and factories; Tourism first favors tourism lodges. Balanced allocates across all industries according to their worker needs.
- Press Save policies and check the displayed effective time.
- Open Economy to review the forecast with the new policy and confirm that food and cash remain sufficient.
Changes take effect from the next turn and do not alter past turns. The automatic purchase budget does not set a spending cap for manually reserved trades, but both use the same cash and trade capacity.
Pause a facility
Facilities checked under Pause facilities stop when the saved policy becomes effective. Their production, sales, capacity, disaster protection, and park effects become zero. Variable costs become zero, but 20% of normal fixed upkeep remains. Uncheck a facility and save to resume it from the next effective turn.
